The Sapphire 1MZ printer is the second product in the Sapphire family line of metal 3D printers. It is designed for high-volume production of large, complex parts that are often used in , but not limited to, the aerospace industry for space exploration. It is equipped with Velo3D’s Intelligent Fusion technology, which includes the company’s own print preparation software. The Sapphire 1MZ printer has a build chamber that measures 315mm x 1000mm, which is larger than the build chamber of the standard Sapphire printer.

Sapphire 1MZ Characteristics

One of the standout features of the Sapphire 1MZ printer is its high laser power of 1 kW, which enables it to print with higher accuracy and speed. It also features dual lasers, which allows it to print two parts simultaneously or to print a single part faster. The Sapphire 1MZ printer is capable of printing high-performance alloys, such as titanium, copper, steel, and nickel-based alloys. Like the original Sapphire, the capability for low angle prints, all the way down to zero degrees, as well as  high aspect ratio structures of up to 3000:1, are major points of interest that separate this Velo3D product from its competitors. When it comes to the software, engineers can use the more than two dozen standardised recipes that Velo3D claims it has to analyse the part, while Flow automatically applies the appropriate recipe to each feature. This can cut down on the need for specialised technicians and save months of development.
