Chinese manufacturer INTAMSYS (an abbreviation of INTelligent Additive Manufacturing SYStems) provides printing and industrial additive manufacturing solutions for high-performance materials. Due to this, since its founding in 2013, the company has mostly focused on solutions for industries like aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, consumer goods, healthcare and research, among others. The Funmat HT printer is the base model of INTAMSYS’ FUNMAT line of industrial 3D printers. This desktop FDM machine is compatible not just with technical plastics like PEI, PEEK or PPSU but also with standard plastics such as ABS or PLA. INTAMSYS considers the machine to be its entry level desktop industrial 3D printer.
Characteristics of the Funmat HT
The Funmat HT is an affordable, high-performance 3D printer which offers a 50-micron high-resolution, allowing for industrial quality 3D printing. It is equipped with two extruders – one for low temperatures and one for higher ones – which can easily be switched out, allowing it to print with both technical materials and more standard thermoplastics. The nozzle temperature can rise up to 450°C, in accordance with the demanding requirements for materials like PEKK which are difficult to print.
With a printing volume of 260 x 260 x 260 mm, the Funmat HT has a heating plate that can rise to 160°C and a magnetic glass ceramic build plate. It is able to automatically detect filament runout, a true benefit considering how expensive high-performance filaments can be. And its heated chamber is able to maintain a constant temperature of 90°C. These features are critical for a machine that hopes to use high-performance materials as well as to produce industrial-quality printing, as is the case with this machine. Though its price range is still north of $5000, making it an unlikely choice for any hoping to only print with standard materials, this is a good deal cheaper than many other industrial solutions on the market, explaining why INTAMSYS considers the Funmat HT to be its entry level printer for industrial applications.
